Samantha Blancher
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Virginia
My work as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is trauma-informed and rooted in relational and attachment-based therapy. I value coming alongside clients in exploring deep-rooted wounds, patterns that can feel overwhelming, and patterns of interactions that no longer serve them or their relationships. At Callahan Counseling & Consultation, my work often includes clients who feel disconnected from themselves and others around them. Together, we explore the most sacred parts of who they are and begin the brave journey of creating change.
My therapeutic approach is secured in safety, hope, and a little banter. It is an honor to guide individuals and couples while they navigate relationships without sacrificing their well-being. My work involves allowing clients to find a path forward in secure connection with themselves and those around them.

My Background As A Counselor
I became a psychotherapist to help clients experience their most sacred stories and reengage with parts of who they are, allowing them to rekindle their inner light and shine again.
Growing up, I experienced dysfunction as the norm, and conflict was always present, resulting in experiences that often left me in survival mode. I took these experiences and allowed them to guide me into my passion as a counselor, empowering me to guide my clients to secure connections while witnessing healing and resilience within themselves.
I know how unhealed parts of ourselves can impact our relationships. Overcoming my own protective and unhelpful patterns within relationships has taken time, and understanding the complexity of healing from this personal perspective allows me to connect with my clients on a deep level.
I Love To Help My Clients Find Their Voice
It is incredibly rewarding to empower those who have made themselves smaller, who have felt the need to isolate themselves, or who think the only way they can feel worthy is by overworking or overfunctioning. Many of my clients didn’t have family support or a safety net and have had to persevere on their own.
Building rapport and safety with my clients is intentional; I offer a space to unpack their stories and parts of who they are, looking under the behavior into the emotional drivers, guiding them to connect with themselves and the trust to connect with others.
My Specialties
I work with couples and individuals through research-backed frameworks that value relational healing, attachment trauma, and family of origin wounds, creating space that allows clients to explore their inner worlds and regain trust within self and relationships.
I’m a Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist, and I’ve noticed that the IFS approach gives people permission to slow down and witness patterns in themselves that may have been unnoticed before.
I have received extensive training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), a research-supported framework for helping partners resolve conflict and build emotional trust. EFT empowers couples to speak from a place of understanding rather than defensiveness.
Sometimes therapy is more about naming old unhelpful patterns and unlearning them than always learning something new, which is why I provide attachment-based therapy. Based on attachment theory, this method suggests that early bonds with caregivers shape how we navigate trust, intimacy, and emotional regulation in all future relationships.
With couples, I can help clients soften their communication with their partners to help them integrate the multiple truths that are often the case with conflict. (e.g., one of you likes to address conflict head-on while the other likes to wait to address it).
Additionally, as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, I affirm non-monogamous relationships and am committed to anti-racist practices. I approach therapy with cultural humility, recognizing the unique experiences of each individual. I aim to create a space for safe, authentic connections and curiosity, providing compassion while encouraging honest accountability.
A Little More About Me
My personal time is spent in connection with my husband and children. I hold my relationships with the highest value, and I truly believe the bonds with people in our lives align us, provide security, and carry an innate sense of trust even when things are hard.
Working out and being active are priorities that I have as well, and that balance helps immensely in my day-to-day life. I believe our mental and physical health are tied together, so using the body to heal is a lot like healing emotions. Learning my own capabilities and developing trust in myself has been incredibly important, and I try to impart that wisdom on my clients so they can build healthy habits as well.

Connection is why we're here. We are hardwired to connect with others, it's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it, there is suffering.” -Brene Brown
